Legal Counsel for Other Matters

The FEDS policy allows for two free 1/2 hour legal consultations with an attorney experienced in the areas of federal personnel and employment law, criminal law or tax and estate planning for matters not covered by the liability defense benefits offered under the policy.

Scenario 1

Employee of the Department of Labor is told he will be put on a performance improvement plan (PIP) for unsatisfactory performance. While performance matters are not covered by the additional legal defense portion of the benefit plan, you would be assigned an attorney experienced in the area of federal personnel and performance law to provide you with ½ hour free telephonic legal consultation.

Scenario 2

Employee at the Department of Homeland Security who was not selected for a promotion believes he is being discriminated against because of his race and wants to file an EEO complaint but does not know how. While proactive actions such as the filing of and prosecution of an EEO complaint are not covered by the additional legal defense portion of the benefit plan, you would be assigned an attorney experienced in the area of EEO law to provide you with ½ hour free telephonic legal consultation.
