FEDS was founded by a former federal employee and attorney who saw the benefits of professional liability protection firsthand by defending federal employees in employment-related matters. Both FEDS and its claims administrator have a demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the federal community. FEDS has assembled a nationally recognized panel of attorneys who have a vast amount of experience in representing federal employees (who provides legal representation?). We believe that it is this commitment and understanding of the federal community, along with the quality of the legal defense provided under the plan that sets FEDS apart from other professional liability programs.
FEDS was founded with the express purpose to provide premier professional liability benefits to the entire federal community and to communicate to the federal community the need for professional liability protection. Now, more than ever, the need for liability protection is necessary for all federal employees—not just law enforcement and management officials. With the changing landscape of the federal community and new workplace rules for agencies such has DHS and DOD, professional liability is a must to protect your livelihood and future. We at FEDS also believe that purchasing liability benefits will improve workplace morale because knowing that a quality legal defense and liability protection is available in the event the unthinkable happens, will give federal employees the comfort they need to make tough decisions affecting their agency, other employees or members of the public.
The FEDS protection benefits program entitles a federal employee who is accused of some kind of wrongdoing in the course of rendering a professional service to have his/her legal fees paid up to $200,000 in an administrative investigation (including an investigation for alleged whistleblower reprisal by OSC, OIG investigation or an EEO investigation where you are named as the responsible management), disciplinary action or judicial sanction proceeding; and up to $100,000 for criminal legal defense. It will also pay a personal judgment up to $1,000,000 in a civil suit.
The FEDS liability protection offers its liability protection benefits for $270 a year. And if you are a manager, supervisor, or law enforcement officer, your agency will reimburse you up to ½ of the cost. Your net cost would be $135 per year. You simply cannot afford not to have it.
